Following a sneak peak of Zero Hour, performed by Jim Brochu, film historian and Turner Classic Movies host Robert Osborne will moderate a discussion of the notorious Blacklist among a group of distinguished guests, many of whom were actually blacklisted in the 1950s.

Scheduled to appear on the panel are:

• Victor Navasky (former editor of The Nation, author of Naming Names),
• Christopher Trumbo (playwright, son of screenwriter Dalton Trumbo),
• Joe Gilford (playwright, son of Madeline Lee and Jack Gilford),
• Jean Rouverol (actor, author) and Cliff Carpenter (actor)

The Honorable Jerrold Nadler, US Congressman and senior member of the House Judiciary Committee,  will introduce the panel.

This historic gathering of those targeted by the blacklist, either directly or by relation, will address many of the issues taken up in Zero Hour,  such as who was called before the House Un-American Activities Committee and why.

The discussion will also focus on the numerous parallels between the communist “witch hunts” of the 1950’s and today’s “war on terror.”

The evening will include:

• · Congressman Jerrold Nadler who will speak for about 5 – 10 minutes.
• · An excerpt from Zero Hour (10 – 15 minutes)
• · Robert Osborne  will introduce the eight panelists and moderate a discussion relating to blacklist (approx 1 hour)

For those who made not have read Ann Coulters awesome book , “Treason” here’s some of the FACTS regarding what really happened (not this revisionist mythology)

It is one of the most enduring lies created by leftists: that all Hollywood trembled in fear over the persecution allegedly launched against Tinseltown by Sen. Joe McCarthy.  Along with the infamous Hollywood 10, actors, actresses, directors, producers and even the guys who swept the studio floors were allegedly writhing in agony, fearing they’d become victims of McCarthyism,  and driven into unemployment and poverty.

There are just a few things wrong with this – it’s not true, Ann Coulter writes in her best-selling  book, “Treason: Liberal Treachery From the Cold War to the War on Terrorism.”

Nowadays, nobody bothers to point out that the phrase “McCarthyism” first appeared in the pages of the Communist Party’s organ in the U.S., the Daily Worker, which got it directly from the bowels of the NKVD’sMoscow headquarters at 3 Dzerzinski Square, where it was coined by the Stalinist disinformation experts in the belief that leftist useful idiots in the U.S. would adopt it as their own. Which of course they did, eagerly, and continue to do so even today.

The hysterical cry of the terrible consequences of blacklisting – of McCarthy depriving honest hardworking Hollywood celebrities of an opportunity to ply their trade, was based on a lie. But as Coulter observes, everything we know about Joe McCarthy is a lie.

The fact is that the so-called blacklisting began when the House Committee on Un-American Activities held hearings to determine the extent of communist penetration of the film industry, which was extensive. Witnesses known as the Hollywood 10, acting under orders from their communist bosses, refused to admit under oath that they were members of the Communist Party. For this contempt of Congress they went to jail for a brief of time.

The Supreme Court refused to hear their appeals. And these so-called victims of the McCarthyite reign of terror, instead of being deprived of their civil liberties, “had the benefit of legal counsel, trial by jury, and proof beyond a reasonable-doubt standard,” Coulter writes. “Still the cosseted, overpampered Hollywood elites were shocked to discover they could be held responsible for anything they did, and vowed that the rest of the country would never hear the end of it.

“At about the same time – under the legal system Communists revered, Stalin executed, starved, exiled or imprisoned more than ten million people.” Coulter writes: “Ten Hollywood scribblers who subscribed to an ideology responsible for the murder by the million refused to admit their membership in the Communist party to a House Committee,” which McCarthy had absolutely nothing to do with.

As Coulter repeatedly points out, McCarthy was a senator, not a member of the House of Representatives, where the committee did its work. He concentrated on communist infiltration into the U.S. government, which the evidence from the Venona intercepts now clearly shows to have been massive. Recoiling in fear of being labeled employers of traitors, courageous Hollywood film  moguls canned all 10 and refused to use them, at least not under their real names. As a result some of them were simply allowed  to work under false names and kept on writing films and getting well paid.

Over and over we are told that the so-called blacklist created a reign of terror in Tinseltown, with everybody in filmdom cringing in fear. Coulter reveals the terrible exile endured by one of the blacklistees: Norma Barzman, who was forced to flee not to Devil’s Island, but instead to gay Paree, where, in her own words, she suffered such grievous punishment as having “dinner with Picasso every Tuesday night when we were at our country house in Provence. Yves Montand and Simone Signoret, Jacques Prevert were our friends. Plus we got to work with all the amazing European directors including Vittorio De Sica and Constantin Costa-Gavras. It was hard, but was also the time of my life.” Oh, the horrors of it all!

“Meanwhile,” Coulter notes, “back in the country they preferred [the U.S.S.R.], people were being whisked off to Soviet gulags in the dead of night. They were being sentenced to work in forced labor camps. They were sent to Siberia for five years.

They were being shot execution-style after being forced to confess to absurd diabolical conspiracies.”

But there was a real Hollywood blacklist you never hear leftists talking about. As NewsMax.com reported in The Left’s Lies That Never Die, conservative anti-communists in Hollywood were denied work because of their beliefs. Men such as Bruce Cabot, Ward Bond, Adolph Menjou and many other members of John Wayne’s anti-communist Motion Picture Alliances were blacklisted and found work only in Wayne’s movies.

In “Treason” Ann Coulter proves her point again and again: Everything you think you know about Joe McCarthy is a lie.

NOW ask yourself this question : Is there a blacklist happening to day? Oh yes!! Yes and YES.

The 9/11 Never Forget Coalition, a diverse group of 9/11 victims, family members, first responders, active and reserve members of the military, veterans, and concerned Americans, is holding a November 24^th press conference to discuss the details of their December 5^th rally protesting the plan to bring the 9/11 terrorist conspirators to trial in New York City.

The Coalition formed to fight the decision of President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to try the 9/11 co-conspirators in New York City’s federal court, effectively giving war criminals the same rights as American citizens while endangering the safety of all New Yorkers.  Two weeks ago, we sent a letter signed by 300 family members of 9/11 victims to the President, Attorney General and Defense Secretary Robert Gates asking them to reverse course.  The letter has now been signed by over 120,000 Americans and is posted at http://www.keepamericasafe.com.

Unity Productions, the co-producer of this documentary,  at first look  seemed to be the typical ‘progressive’, building-bridges liberals promoting Islam. However, after the screening, with a bit of research there were a few surprises. The New York screening on November 10, 2009, was at the Scholastic Auditorium ( described on-line as  “combining corporate design and (and corporate sponsors) style with a touch of schoolhouse whimsy…”

So now we have the venue, but the title, “Inside Islam:What a billion Muslims Really Think”, was really all we needed to lure us downtown, to the wrong address thanks to the ticket agency, but in the company of other lost-patrons we managed to find our way to the screening . Thought this was going to be a quick evening,  in and out, just another documentary promoting Islam (that misunderstood Religion of Peace).

The synopsis: Inside Islam: What a Billion Muslims Really Think, a new documentary film from Unity Productions Foundation, explores the expertly gathered opinions of Muslims around the globe as revealed in the world’s first major opinion poll, conducted by Gallup, the preeminent polling organization.

Some thoughts we had regarding the film as well as statements made at the talkback :

The Gallup poll said no one they interviewed used the Quran as a reason for 9-11.

Terrorists hate us for our Freedom.  Frustrated because they have no power only fear. Hate us because we meddle. They just want a Democracy. Unrelated to religion.Dislike that we treat them like children (referring to Iraq) When 9-11 happened Bloomberg’s Commissioner, Fatima Shama, and the female narrator in the film, Dalia Mogahed said they were so fearful the perpetrators might be Muslim.

Dahlia, also happens to promote Sharia (…says it’s misunderstood)

John Esposito had a lot of face time as well (director of Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal center for Muslim-Christian understanding at Georgetown University.)

Fatima Shama was so thankful for Bloomberg’s administration and the diversity; the tolerance; his good example. Shama also quoted Obama (who had been at Ft. Hood that day)  “No faith justifies these murderous and craven acts; no just and loving God looks upon them with favor” . This of course brought self-congratulatory applause from the audience (which was white, Jewish, western-dressed Muslims, a few hijabs and blacks.) It seemed at a glance like more of the black women were in hijab compared to the others.

Vets and PTS were mentioned…of course….related to Ft. Hood. Stress of war…

LOTS of children through out the film. Always in prayer groups (a circle) reading happily the Quran

KKK, IRA, McVeigh…always get mentioned as examples of all religions and countries have terrorists

M.E.C.C.A. is an outreach organization in midtown Manhattan for Christian to Muslim converts (oh, my)

Change the Story, Intersections, something called 20,000 dialogues were all about talktalktalking. We can make peace happen if we would just talk. Talking means we would learn there is no reason to fear Muslims or Islam.

The review of the screening in Chicago was actually critical

BTW, the talk-back  had  implied they would be taking questions from the audience. That was so NOT on their agenda. An hour of tedious patting on the back from the producer and the director, Rob Gardner (Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain, Egypt: Quest for Immortality) on making this important film and then after about 15 minutes of let’s pretend that we’re finally taking questions (NOPE) back to long-winded speeches from the panelists.  After about 80 minutes of this, we’d heard enough.

- Moderator – Zeba Iqbal - Muslim Public Affairs Council NYC. She is the Vice-Chair of CAMP International (Council for the Advancement of Muslim Professionals). Additionally, she was the conference manager for CAMP’s 2008 and 2009 conferences.

Click after click on the computer took us through the sponsors, the producers, the speakers (the film) and revealed a web of organizations deeply embedded in our schools and colleges. Ft. Hood has exposed, again,  how seriously this indoctrination (this one-sided propaganda) has corrupted our schools, our libraries, our media and our military.  And just this week Columbia and Princeton  have reinforced this one-sided non-critical revisionist view of the Islamic World History by refusing outright and  shamelessly canceling last-minute the appearance of  an “unapproved” speaker, Nonie Darwish. Her list of ‘dangerous’ speakers includes(amongst many others)  Geert Wilders, David Horowitz  and Robert Spencer , who was assaulted this week while speaking at NYU. (For the latest outrageous cancellations and assaults of these reputable and respected critics of Islam, go here> )

This screening and its sponsors’ have reinforced how critical our timing is with this relentless  RE-’education’ of the West the doors to transparency are creeping shut. And those present at this screening are a microcosm of the machine that is responsible.  We must  not cease to expose Islam and to challenge these Islamic Revisionist lies.  Their man is in the White House so they confidently intimidate with accusations of hate-speech. Sadly, this censorship combined with our own self-censorship has gone deadly as the murders at Ft. Hood have revealed. They own the message, for now, but we must NOT relent. Look for this film. It’ll be on PBS in February and probably in our schools and our libraries. FIGHT BACK . The books , their speakers and  the films must be challenged. Demand the right to be heard. Our future depends on it.

UPDATED with some additional thoughts:  Regarding the meet and greet energy of those handing out the programs and the brochures: very friendly; very nice. But, so are Scientologists (til they’ve ‘got you’ and all your money) then try to ask questions about what you are being taught? “No comprende.” The ‘new’ and predictable Q and A was a s predictable as  the Democrat controlled Town Hall meetings we witnessed this past summer (Anthony Weiner and Tom Duane come to mind) The ruse of collecting index-carded questions which are then carried to the stage and….then…ignored was routine. The pplan was always to bore you to death with long-winded speeches til you just want to go home and forget the Q and A!…they have. And that was exactly what became of the Q and A after the screening. Nada. No Q and A, just lots of speeches

And lastly, the ‘face’ of Islam in this film was young, female and also many children (who seemed purposefully non-Arabic) and the ‘voice’ of Sharia Law (it’s just misunderstood,remember) was the on-camera narrator, Dalia Mogahed. We spend so much time with her that to reject Dalia or any of these nice muslims, to reject their presentation of Islam as a Religion of Peace, would make us all racists, bigots: Islam-bashers.

So, what’s the message? No questions allowed about apostasy. None about womens’ and gay rights nor sharia law.  Islam is just like any other religion. This is a ‘fact’ not to be questioned And, one more thought, regarding all that nice diversity the preach about Take a good look at our police, the mta,cab-drivers (service employees) it’s like a segment of “V’: They’re HERE and things may not be so nice in a pinch…think about it….does Ft. Hood come to mind? Let the Muslims live in a parallel universe in OUR country and eventually, once we’re the minority in our own land, we will be completely dhimmi-fide. It’s already happening. Can we stop it? Or is it too late? It’s up to us to decide….

Greetings fellow South Florida riders, South Floridians, and Americans, here we are for another monthly installment of our Wheels on the Road (WOTR) political assessment. As this issue hits I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Hanukkah, and Merry Christmas……sorry, I am a traditional Southern fella that does not get this “Holiday” stuff.

Last month I discussed our being one year away from the most critical mid-term elections our Nation may ever know. We defined the difference between conservative and post-modern liberal political ideologies. In this past month we saw two very interesting Gubernatorial elections, well some of us missed them as WH Spokesman Robert Gibbs said the President was watching basketball. In case he still does not know the Republicans won in New Jersey and Virginia.

We are about to close out what has been an incredibly tumultuous year, the first under Emperor Obama…..townhall in China, give me a break!

I truly believe that it is necessary to consider Plato’s timeless quote and ponder, how does it apply to the elections of 2010?

Webster defines the word charlatan as “a fraud, quack, impostor”.

In this past year we have witnessed several instances of individuals that have perpetrated fraud against the American people. And our Country is plagued with charlatans.

We are all quite familiar with the Bernie Madoff case which devastated many people here in South Florida, quite a few in Florida Congressional district 22. So many people placed their trust in what we now know was an elaborate “ponzi scheme”. The life savings of countless individuals was lost.

Just recently we have experienced another such case in the Ft Lauderdale area with a local lawyer named Scott Rothstein. The dollar amounts are not in the same strata as Madoff, only $1Billion, but that is still a pretty substantial number. One would think that we would be more attuned after the realization of what Madoff had executed.

But on an even greater scale we see the future and legacy of our Republic being stolen away by those who truly are our inferiors, impostors.

We have a Secretary of the Treasury, head of the Internal Revenue Service, who cheated on his own taxes. We have Congressman Charlie Rangel, who is the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, keeper of our 67,000 page tax code. It has come to our attention that Congressman Rangel has also cheated against the document for which he is charged to keep. How is it that these individuals who have knowingly committed acts of fraud are in positions to govern us?

This year we have learned that we have members of Congress who have admitted that they do not read the legislation presented. I cannot consider this in any other term than being negligent in executing their duties, indeed committing fraud against those whom they should be representing.

I am sure there are multitudes of examples that we all can bring to mind from local to the federal levels of government. Former Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson recently  received a 13 year prison sentence for his corruption while serving in office; just another example of a charlatan.

I will not speak of our current President because the examples are too numerous to count. What I will speak of is the fact that leaders make a decision; they don’t vote “present”. However, as Benjamin Franklin stated, “sometimes you get the government you want, other times you get the government you deserve”.

How is it that over the course of the years our Great Republic has ended up being governed by lesser men, and women? Nancy Pelosi and my Congressional opponent Ron Klein are prime examples.

There is a simple answer; America has forgotten what leadership is.

As this year ends and we head into the election cycle of 2010 we must once again remember what comprises leadership. The individuals who now sit in key positions in our Country would have never been able to set us on course233 years ago to establish this “more perfect union” the United States of America.

Having spent 22 years in active duty service I have had the distinct honor to serve with an array of incredible men and women. I would like to share with you what I have been taught leadership to be.

Leadership has five basic components; the first is courage, not just physical courage but also moral courage to stand, sometimes alone, in order to do that which is right. It is about having a unique quality that in times of a trying crisis steps forth and exhibits itself in actions that are selfless and display uncommon virtue, valor, and resolve.

The second component is competence which is an ability to anticipate a problem, analyze viable solutions, and execute a decision. It is truly a talent that is necessary as America faces some of the most pressing issues in our economy, national security, energy independence, and illegal immigration. Competence knows no partisan agenda but seeks that which is best for those whom a leader is called to lead.

The third component is conviction which relates to one having a strong belief. What we need now more than ever are men and women who have a strong belief in America and its Constitution. America is a Republic and what is a fundamental principle of a Republic is adherence to Rule of Law….and that is our Constitution.

A conviction in America would have precluded the passing of the insidious healthcare legislation last week, in the wee hours.

The fourth component is commitment. In the military we all take an oath to our Constitution, to support and defend it, against all enemies foreign and domestic. We have a bond to our Brother and Sister Warriors. America now needs leaders who are committed to the American people, not their own self-interest and certainly not special interest, foreign or domestic.

Finally, leadership is about character, and for me that is defined by “doing what is right when no one is watching”. Far too many of those who are inferior to us have risen to positions of governance, only to make deals and decisions in hiding.

If our Country is to survive for another 233 years we must regain an ability to assess leadership. And in the coming year there will be many parading before us for support to gain that special honor to govern….yours truly is one of them.

Therefore, as 2009 ends and we head to 2010 we must become engaged in politics. Judge any of us with the hardest of scrutiny and ask the tough questions. Remember that leadership is not about having a nice image or giving pretty prepared speeches.

Leadership is about courage, competence, conviction, commitment, and character. Let us not allow the maxim of Plato to again define our Country. Let us no longer be led by fakes, phonies, and frauds.

The world according to Pelosi/Reid/Obama is a dead-end; doomed by “Hopey-Changey” gang. Can we stop them? Or is it too late….?

We took the public tour of our new assault ship, the USS New York, the day before Veteran’s Day (November 10, 2009).

It also just happened to be the birthday of our US Marines (November 10, 1775). It was a great two-hours well-spent. Every one on-board: crew (enlisted and officers) old and young…veterans, women, children …. each and everyone was so happy!

A friend remarked it was like Disneyland for grown-ups: No kidding. It was difficult to capture a shot of all the activity without a few blurs as everyone was eagerly moving from spot to spot. Even so, it was fun catching people sitting in cockpits, climbing on tanks, holding large shells and huge heavy weapons (this was particularly popular) .

And there was a very meaningful display in memory of those murdered on 9/11.

She’s a beautiful ship.
