We Are The People!!UAC Leads a Coalition to confront ‘Subway Jihad’ in New York City
|UAC confronts ‘subway jihad’ in New York City|
An coalition of respectable American organizations, lead by the New York chapter of the United American Committee are standing up against a
advertisement campaign being promoted by known supporters of Islamic terror.
(NEW YORK, NY – 7/31/2008) – What started out as a campaign disguised as promoting dialogue between people of different faiths according to its sponsors, may actually be a promotion for Islamic terror according to groups confronting this highly questionable campaign. The “Why Islam?” campaign, dubbed “Subway jihad” by its opponents, entails a series of advertisements in New York subway cars promoting the Islamic ideology. Concerns arose when radical Imam Siraj Wahhaj, unindicted co conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings, came out as a promoter of the project. “In time, this so-called democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing, and the only thing that will remain will be Islam,” Wahhaj is noted as stating in one of his regular sermons, causing an uproar from Americans all across the nation.
Yet Wahhaj continues to issue sermons and statements on a regular bases that are shocking and gravely concerning to many. “Why has the Muslim community not denounced this man? Instead he is being recruited to promote campaigns such as the subway advertisements.” remarked Pamela Hall, Chairwoman of the New York chapter of the United American Committee. “ This is deeply concerning.” Hall continued.
In September,to coincide with Ramadan,a variation of three Islamic advertisements will appear in 1,000 of the ’s 6,200 subway cars according to a statement by the campaign’s organizers. This latest campaign comes as no surprise to veteran groups such as the United American Committee and others involved in the anti-jihad resistance confronting this campaign such as the Stop the Madrassa Coalition, who all have a focus on tackling issues pertaining to Islamic radicalism. “They will use any resource necessary to fight their jihad against America, be they bullets or through non-violent means such as this.” remarked U.A.C. Vice Chairman Jim Horn when questioned about the advertisement campaign.
The anti-jihad groups are urging all concerned citizens across the nation to contact New York city, state and federal representatives, as well as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to express their concerns over the advertisements. More information on this and other anti-jihad resistance activities can be found at http://thesilentmajority.wordpress.com or http://www.UnitedAmericanCommittee.org

Below is the press release from Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA)
THE MESSAGE OF ISLAM REACHES NEW YORK CITY SUBWAYS THIS RAMADAN
Tuesday, 22 July 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-
Islamic Subway Ads Raise Questions, Muslims Reach Out to New Yorkers to Provide Answers.
The New York Chapter of Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) and it’s 877-WHY-ISLAM project is sponsoring 1,000 ads to appear in 1,000 New York City subway cars during Ramadan. Ramadan is a month when Islam receives more attention, because Muslims will be fasting at the workplace. The mission of the project is to encourage people to search for unbiased information on Islam and to promote understanding and dialogue between people of different faiths.
The ad design portrays questions that people may have about Islam in a visual format. Keywords associated with common stereotypes about Islam, including politicized buzz words (i.e. Head Scarf) are displayed on the ad as questions. Interested passengers can then visit http://www.whyislam.org or call 1-877-WHY-ISLAM to receive answers to any of their questions. A variation of 3 advertisements will appear in 1,000 of the MTA’s 6,200 subway cars. The ads can be viewed on http://www.youdeservetoknow.org in high resolution.
Due to the presence of much negativity and Islamophobia, the general public has the daunting task of sifting through uninformed and biased sources before they can find reliable outlets. We are providing an opportunity to anyone who has questions to have them answered by informed Muslims.
Naeem Baig, Secretary General of ICNA said “If someone has strong sentiments about Islam then they must have questions about the faith as well, and its all the more reason for them to obtain more information.”
Islam, the religion of approximately 7 million Americans, promotes peace, prayer, humility as well as social, communal and family values. However, despite the many similarities and values shared with other faiths, such as Christianity and Judaism, Islam remains the most misunderstood religion in America. Ignorance is recognized as a major source for the hatred and violence that exists in today’s world. By eliminating ignorance, we can help create a more peaceful and tolerant environment where we can understand and appreciate each others’ faith. During Ramadan, when over 1 billion Muslims fast worldwide, many questions may arise about Islam and the subway ads are a way to direct people to obtaining basic information.
Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is a 501c3 non-profit grassroots organization of American Muslims which focuses on Education, Outreach, Social Services and Youth programming.
